Sölden is a renowned ski resort nestled in Austria's Ötztal Valley. It's famous for its extensive ski area, which includes three peaks over 3,000 meters (the BIG3) and two glacier ski areas, Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner. Sölden is part of the Ötztal Nature Park, which spans 508 square kilometres, making it the second-largest nature park in Tyrol and the third-largest in Austria. The village of Sölden itself combines traditional alpine charm with modern amenities. After a day on the slopes or exploring the nature park, visitors can enjoy a vibrant après-ski scene, a variety of dining options, and wellness facilities to relax and rejuvenate.
Sölden is a top-notch destination for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, boasting approximately 144 kilometres of slopes, ensuring ample space for beginners and seasoned pros alike. For those new to the sport or looking to refine their skills, Sölden provides excellent ski schools with professional instructors ready to guide you. The resort's layout includes a variety of runs, making it easy to find slopes that match your comfort level. The longest ski trail, from Swarze Schneide to the Gaislachkogl base is 15km, with an elevation change of almost 2,000m. The resort also offers freeriding opportunities, so off-piste enthusiasts will find Sölden particularly appealing. The resort offers guided tours for those looking to venture beyond the groomed runs, providing access to some of the most exhilarating untouched powder and challenging terrains. Safety is a priority, and it's recommended to explore these areas with experienced guides who are knowledgeable about the local conditions.
Sölden is renowned for its vibrant après-ski scene, offering a plethora of options to unwind and celebrate after a day on the slopes. For those who prefer to start the festivities early, the Sölden Parties at the Giggijoch fun zone are an absolute must. Every Friday afternoon, DJs do their thing at over 2,000 metres altitude, turning the slopes into an open-air dance floor. Back in the village, venues like Fire & Ice and Marco's are popular spots to continue the celebration. Fire & Ice, located in the heart of Sölden, is known for its dynamic atmosphere, attracting a diverse crowd ready to party into the night. Marco's however, offers the convenience of skiing straight to the bar. Its retractable roof and spacious sun terrace make it a favourite among visitors looking to relax immediately after skiing. For a more traditional après-ski experience, Fuchsloch provides a cosy setting to enjoy drinks and hang out in a classic alpine ambience.
