Jackson Hole sits in a high, flat valley surrounded by mountain ranges. The town of Jackson gets many more visitors in summer than in winter, thanks to the nearby national parks, and it strives to maintain its Wild West flavour, with traditional-style wooden buildings and sidewalks, and a couple of 'cowboy' saloons. In winter it's half-empty and accommodation prices come down.
The slopes, a 15-minute drive or $3 bus-ride ('crowded') north-east, rise abruptly from the flat valley floor. At the lift base is Teton Village, which has expanded over the last few years to become a much more attractive place we are told the expansion is starting to attract a wider range of visitors to the slopes, including more families. The big mountain that makes Jackson Hole famous Rendezvous provides a 1260m/4,130ft vertical exceptional for the US. The claimed average of 460 inches of snow is much more than most Colorado resorts claim, but the slopes are quite sunny as they basically face south-east. There are few reports of lift queues.
In classic American style, Jackson offers a good range of excellent dining options and most of the best bets at Teton Village are in the hotels. Après-ski includes amusing saloons both at Teton Village and in Jackson itself, the latter which also has lots of clothing and souvenir shops, as well as upmarket galleries.
We'd like to wish you an enjoyable holiday in the snow and please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any queries regarding your insurance cover.
