What information will I need if I call for emergency medical assistance?
If you are taken ill or injured abroad and need to go into hospital, or you might have to come home early or stay longer, call the emergency medical assistance team on your policy as soon as you can. If you are too unwell to call, someone travelling with you or a member of the hospital staff can call for you.
It helps to have these details ready:
- your name, home address and email address
- your mobile number and a contact number where you are staying
- the name of the hospital and the treating doctor
- your policy number, which is on your policy certificate
- your GP''s name, address and phone number
The assistance team''s phone number is on your policy certificate and in your policy wording. Direct Travel policyholders should also give the scheme name, Direct Travel Insurance, when they call.
Please don''t arrange your own treatment or transport and expect to be refunded later. If you don''t contact the assistance team and get their approval first, some or all of the costs may not be paid.
