What is covered under Hospital Benefit?
Hospital benefit is a set amount of money paid for each full day, usually each 24 hours, that you spend as an in-patient in hospital abroad. It is paid on top of your emergency medical expenses and is usually meant to help with extra costs while you are in hospital, such as phone calls or travel for visitors.
Not every policy includes it. Our own Direct Travel policies bought from 8 January 2026 don''t have a hospital benefit, but your hospital treatment abroad is still covered under the emergency medical section.
Some other policies we offer do include hospital benefit. Where it is included, the daily amount and the most you can claim are shown in the cover summary of your policy wording.
If you are admitted to hospital abroad, contact the emergency medical assistance team on your policy as soon as you can.
