Flash Flood in Majorca Claims British Life
A British woman, 26, has been found dead, and a 32-year-old British man remains missing after they were swept away by flash floods while hiking on Majorca's Torrent de Pareis trail. They were part of a group of five hiking in the Tramuntana mountain range when the storm hit on Tuesday, triggering flash floods.
Emergency services, including Spain’s Civil Guard, are continuing their search for the missing man, despite weather delays.
Ten other hikers, including French, German, and British nationals, were rescued from the canyon by Civil Guard units with the assistance of a helicopter. Severe weather conditions had been forecast for the Balearic Islands, with warnings of heavy rain and strong winds.
The floods have affected wider areas, including Barcelona, where a lightning strike forced the postponement of an America’s Cup sailing event.
Authorities had previously issued warnings about intense storms, and rescue teams are continuing their operations despite more inclement weather predicted.
