Peruvian ceviche named world's best food
For many people, travel and food will always go hand in hand, with the experience of trying new dishes and recipes being part of the fun of visiting new places. Often, trips abroad introduce tourists to cuisines they had previously never even heard of - let alone tried - which is why it's always a good idea to keep an open mind about food when overseas and to try to sample as many dishes as possible.
If you've had a few bad culinary experiences on your travels, however, then don't lose faith, because the Chowtzer Fast Feasts awards are here to help you out by naming the best dishes to try around the world.
Returning for its second year, the awards ceremony took place in London last week (April 26th), with the ceviche at Chez Wong in Lima, Peru, being crowned the best dish in the world.
Typical to Peru, ceviche is a type of spicy seafood dish, which can be made with several different types of fish and has a strong citrus taste to it, with plenty of lime juice being added to the mix.
Common throughout the coastal areas of the country, it's something of a national symbol and even has a holiday dedicated to it on June 28th. Further inland, however, it is less common and tends to be replaced by typical Andean foods such as roasted guinea pig - known locally as cuy.
In other categories, Di Fara in Brooklyn was named as the best pizza on the planet, while the falafel at L'As du Falaffel in Paris picked up the best vegetarian dish award.
The best noodles gong, meanwhile, went to the pad thai at Thai Thip Samai in Bangkok, with Seattle-based restaurant Paseo's Caribbean roast sandwich taking the honour of the best sandwich in the world.
