JFK airport evacuated after gunshots reported

Two terminals of New York’s JFK airport were evacuated at 9:30pm local time on Sunday, 14th August, due to an unconfirmed reporting of gun shots.

Travellers begun to panic at around 9:30pm, when gunfire reports started around the departures area of Terminal 8.

The security scare also made the police decide to evacuate Terminal 1, as similar reports were made.

Port Authority later released a statement saying: “Preliminary investigation does not indicate shots were fired at JFK. There are no injuries.

“At this time, no gun shells or other evidence of shots fired has been found. The terminal was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.”

They also advised that as flights had been disrupted, that travellers should contact their airlines.

Flightradar24.com tweeted: “Delays growing as authorities resolve situation at JFK. Some inbound flights diverting.”

The airport has now given the all clear with flights resuming as normal.
