Thomson launches new brand aimed at 18-35s

A new brand targeting the 18-to-35 age bracket has been launched by Thomson, according to Travel Weekly.

Thomson Scene is to be split into two separate propositions, one called Scene Style, which is aimed at the older end of the spectrum, and one called Scene Hub, which is aimed at younger travellers.

The latter will target college leavers with hotels and resorts that are based in the centres of popular nightlife-orientated destinations. Scene Hub will also replace the 30-year-old 2wentys youth brand which was originally set up by First Choice to target the demographic.

Thomson managing director Dave Burling told Travel Weekly that Scene Style will offer more “stylish and sophisticated” properties while also offering access to "chilled days and lively nights".

"We want to make sure that the Thomson brand resonates from the cradle to the grave. If there is one market where Thomson is not represented, it's the 18-35 market, and we think there is a big opportunity. We can develop hotels in the Tui portfolio and invest in new hotels. We will not just appeal to this market in the the UK but across Europe,” he added.

When the programme goes live on Thursday (September 25th), holidaygoers in this age range will be able to choose from 86 hotels spread across 36 resorts and 20 different countries.

Fraser Ellacott, customer operations director at the company, said that although Thomson Scene would be ideal for online distribution, the organisation’s shops are all very ready to sell the product.

He went on to say: "It's exactly this kind of product that will really suit our retail estate. We'll have a new Thomson Scene module on our training course and a big focus on it at our retail conference in November."

This demographic is a particularly lucrative one, with more companies now looking to offer an alternative experience for younger travellers.

Holidaygoers may need different types of insurance depending on the nature of the trip they choose.
