Gluttonous holidaymakers double their calorie intake on day one of trip

Many people spend the entire spring dieting and exercising in order to achieve that coveted bikini body in time for their summer holiday, although it seems that as soon as the trip starts, Brits are inclined to throw away all their hard work and binge like never before.

This is according to a recent survey by CheapHolidayLand.com, which discovered that British tourists on all inclusive breaks tend to consume around double their recommended daily calorie intake within the first 24 hours of arriving at their destination.

The NHS's guidelines state that the average man should be receiving about 2,500 calories per day in their diet, while women need to consume around 2,000, although it appears that many of us are willing to totally ignore this advice when we're on holiday.

Indeed, the study found that Brits are likely to spend their trips gorging themselves on just about everything they can get their hands on, with a whopping 5,756 consumed on average on the first day, the Daily Mail Reports.

When respondents were asked to list the things they ate and drank on day one of their most recent all inclusive trip, many claimed to have had a very large breakfast, often consisting of a bowl of cereal followed by the Full English.

Lunch tends to consists of a burger and chips, while snacks like packets of crisps are also eaten at various points during the day.

Around a quarter of the day's calories appear to be consumed in liquid form, with alcoholic beverages contributing significantly to the total figure. In fact, the average Brit will consume three bottles of beer, three glasses of sangria, two glasses of wine, two mojitos and a gin and tonic within 24 hours of starting their holiday.

It's clear that the allure of having everything available for free on an all inclusive holiday is too much for many people to resist, although it's always a good idea to monitor your daily intake and not exceed recommend amounts by too much - even if you are on holiday.
