Adventurous Brits get their kicks on holiday

British holidaymakers have a strong interest in trying extreme sports when on a getaway. While holidays are supposed to be relaxing, it seems a new trend is emerging among British tourists whereby more people than ever before are now seeking out extreme activities while on a getaway.

This is according to a recent survey of UK holidaymakers by the Post Office, which revealed that some 75 per cent now indulge in adventure sports when they leave the country, describing themselves as 'have a go holidayers'.

Indeed, while traditional activities such as fishing, golf and cycling were cited by less than 28 per cent of respondents as things they would be interested in partaking in when on a break, 58 per cent say they would like to try their hand at rally car driving, making this the most popular activity among travelling Brits.

Such is the desire for high-octane activities that the average amount of money that people are willing to pay for this particular pursuit was found to be £111.77, while respondents also claimed they would happily fork out £126 for the chance to go sky diving on their next trip.

Other activities that British tourists claimed to be interested in include scuba diving, with 49 per cent saying they'd like to try this and would readily pay up to £83.12 for the chance to do so, while 47 per cent also expressed a desire to have a go at water skiing, setting aside £64 of their holiday budget for this particular activity.

Water sports in general were found to be extremely popular, with 44 per cent identifying sailing as the sport they would most like to try on a future getaway and a further 43 per cent opting for white water rafting.

On dry land, meanwhile, jungle trekking emerged as one of the most sought-after activities, with 45 per cent expressing an interest in trying this the next time they visit a tropical country, while snowboarding, paragliding and surfing all made it into the top ten as well.
