Life's a beach

When the time comes to plan your next holiday, sometimes only a touch of sun, sea and sand will do. Beach breaks have something to offer all tastes, whether you’re looking to catch some rays and relax in the sunshine, splash in the surf with the family, or take in scenic views on a coastal stroll. If you’re looking for the ideal destination for your next seaside break, have a read about some of our favourite European beaches…

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The Old Town in the beautiful city of Dubrovnik has been rendered world-famous following the appearance of its charming buildings and sea walls in Game of Thrones, but just a short boat trip away is Sunji Beach on the island of Lopud. The rustic, rocky scenery and vibrant blue waters in this secluded cove will transport you to another world – hiking or catching a lift to this spot from your drop-off point is an absolute must as part of your day trip from the mainland.

South of France

There are many reasons why the South of France attracts year-round visitors, but the spectacular sandy beaches of hotspots like Cannes, Nice and Antibes are known to deliver unrivalled levels of glamour, as well as the perfect opportunity to top up your tan. Take in the scenic coastline or relax with a picnic under a parasol on the lovely Villefranche-Sur-Mer, just a short train ride away from Nice, to rub shoulders with sun-kissed tourists and locals alike.

Ibiza, Spain

One of the most popular of the Balearic Islands, Ibiza is best known for its party culture – but can also offer a range of gorgeous beaches. Head to Las Salinas to enjoy the ultimate party beach where you can enjoy a cold drink and soak up the sun with the sand between your toes – or wind down after a late night under a colourful umbrella at Cala Xuclar, a beautiful hidden gem. So much more than just the ultimate spot for a night out, this island has a beach for everyone.

Sardinia, Italy

The island of Sardinia, off the coast of Italy, offers some of the most enticing beaches the country can offer. Explorers will love traversing the diverse terrain and soft sands of Spiaggia di Tuerredda, a wonderful sheltered hotspot towards the south of the island. The stunningly clear aquamarine waters also make this particular area a top spot for snorkelling – so there’s always a lot to do, not to mention plentiful opportunities to kick back and enjoy the view.

The Algarve, Portugal

If you’re after the guarantee of a sun-drenched sandy beach holiday, you can do little wrong with a visit to the golden sands and stunning cliff faces of Praia da Benagil on the south coast of Portugal. With ample opportunity to traverse the awe-inspiring coastline on foot, or to paddle out on a kayak to experience the ocean waves or explore mysterious sea caves, this region offers a truly unforgettable experience.
