What is mixed gas diving?
Mixed gas diving involves breathing a specially prepared blend of gases, such as nitrox or trimix, instead of ordinary compressed air. The mixture is chosen to suit the planned depth and duration of the dive.
Can I get travel insurance for mixed gas diving?
Yes, policies that cover non-commercial mixed gas diving can be available through Direct Travel.
Choose the activity with the correct maximum depth when getting your quote. Options are available for diving to 30 metres and 40 metres. Check that the full activity and depth appear on your Policy Certificate or policy documents.
You must be suitably qualified or accompanied by a qualified instructor, and you must not dive alone. Cave diving and wreck diving are not included. You must also wait more than 24 hours after your last dive before travelling by air.

What can travel insurance help with?
Emergency medical expenses can be covered if you’re injured while taking part in insured mixed gas diving. Repatriation can also be covered when medically necessary, subject to the terms and limits of your policy.

Mixed Gas Diving FAQs
Which diving depth should I select?
Choose the maximum depth you intend to reach. Mixed gas diving options are available to 30 metres and 40 metres.
What happens if I dive deeper than my insured limit?
You must remain within the maximum depth shown on your policy documents. A dive beyond that limit is not covered under the selected activity.
Do I need a mixed gas diving qualification?
You must either hold the qualification required for the planned dive or be accompanied by a qualified instructor. You must also remain within the limits of your training and certification.
Can I go mixed gas diving alone?
No. Solo diving is not covered. You must dive with another suitably qualified person or be accompanied by a qualified instructor.
Are cave diving and wreck diving included?
No. Cave diving and wreck diving are excluded from this mixed gas diving activity, even when you remain within the insured depth.
How long must I wait before flying after a dive?
You must allow more than 24 hours to pass between your last dive and any air travel. Flying sooner would fall outside the activity conditions.
Is commercial mixed gas diving covered?
No. This activity is for amateur, non-commercial diving. Diving professionally or as part of paid work is not covered.
Can emergency treatment be covered after a diving incident?
Emergency medical expenses can be covered when mixed gas diving and the correct depth are shown on your policy documents and all activity conditions have been followed.
Can I get cover if I have a medical condition?
Pre existing medical conditions are considered separately from activity cover. Declare them when getting your quote, as cover is subject to medical screening and acceptance.
