What is hockey?
Hockey, also known as field hockey, is a team sport played on grass or an artificial pitch. Players use sticks to move a ball and score against the opposing team. This activity does not include ice hockey, roller hockey or other separately listed versions of the sport.
Can I get travel insurance for hockey?
Yes, policies that cover amateur hockey can be available through Direct Travel.
Hockey must be added when getting your quote and displayed on your Policy Certificate or policy documents. Cover is for amateur field hockey only. Ice hockey and roller hockey are separate activities and are not included under standard hockey cover.

Can a hockey tournament be the main purpose of my trip?
No. Cover does not apply when a match, tournament or competition is the main purpose of your trip. Playing must form part of a wider holiday.
Is professional or paid hockey covered?
No. Cover is for amateur participation only. Professional, paid, sponsored or contracted participation and competition for prize money are not covered.
Can hockey training be covered?
Amateur training can be covered when it forms part of the insured hockey activity and hockey appears on your policy documents. Professional or paid training is not covered.
Can medical expenses be covered if I am injured?
Emergency medical expenses can be covered if hockey is shown on your policy documents and the claim meets the policy’s terms and conditions.
Can I get cover if I have a medical condition?
Pre-existing medical conditions are considered separately from activity cover. Declare them when getting your quote, as cover is subject to medical screening and acceptance.
