Direct Travel your guide to Cancellation cover.
What is Cancellation cover and why do you need it?
Cancellation cover will protect you if the unexpected should happen and you are unable to travel. Most policies include Cancellation cover as standard although some providers will allow you to exclude this feature and many may offer a discount to do so.
Key points to remember:
- Cancellation cover should pay out if the unexpected happens and you have to cancel your holiday or trip.
- Remember to book travel insurance when you book your holiday this is important and ensures you are fully covered if the worst was to happen.
- Single trip insurance will cover you from the date the premium is paid.
- Annual Multi trip insurance will cover you from the start date of the policy so don’t book your Annual insurance too far ahead otherwise you won’t be covered.
- A lot of people are unable to claim simply because they do not book their travel insurance early enough so don’t delay as soon as that deposit is paid arrange your travel insurance.
- Be sure to check your policy cover details as not all travel insurance policies include cancellation cover so make sure you check the cover will fully cover you for the total cost of your trip.
This won’t make up for the disappointment of missing that week or two in the sun but at least you will not be out of pocket and will be able to book another holiday soon.
When will Cancellation cover pay out?
There are a number of reasons why you would need to cancel your trip here are just a few examples of what should be covered if you needed to claim:

- Unexpected death of a close relative or travelling companion.

- Being unable to travel due to a failure of obtaining a passport or visa
- You will not be covered if when taking out the insurance you were already aware of an incident that would stop you from travelling.
How much Cancellation cover do I have and can I increase the cover?

Why would you exclude Cancellation cover?
