Ahh November. That sweet spot before the festivities of the season really kick in… and the perfect time to book an escape right here in the United Kingdom, where the weather is chilly and the fire is beckoning. It’s the perfect opportunity to take a peaceful retreat from normal life before things get too busy, to enjoy those golden leaves, and to dig into a hearty bowl of chunky soup. Naturally, we suggest a little getaway to ease yourself into the season.
The Lake District is stunning. Known for its breathtaking lakes and mountainous landscape, the spirit of the place lends itself to wrapping up warm and going for a ramble with a flask. Even driving through the Lake District holds a certain kind of magic, so you can always ditch the walking boots and have a dashboard picnic! You’ll be in the perfect spot for quiet reflection, refreshed by the immense beauty of the place, understanding exactly why the Lake District has inspired writers and artists for years.
No UK getaway list is complete without the Cotswolds. Perhaps the most quintessentially English experience, you’ll find chocolate box villages for miles, an abundance of endearing country pubs, and quirky cottages aplenty. Although a popular Christmas spot, those lost November weeks mean you'll be able to enjoy the views without the queues.
For a truly solitudinous escape, the Scottish Highlands might be more your bag. The summer crowds are long gone and the misty hills, glens, and lochs are almost entirely yours to explore (think Victorian Gothic novel). Explore the vastness of the Highlands alongside red deer or golden eagles, then make your way back to a family-owned inn where thick blankets and a stone fireplace set you up for the best sleep of your life.
Cornwall and Devon are good for a coastal escape. Milder temperatures, roaring waves, clifftop walks, and off-season seaside towns. Quite like one of those beach days in the middle of summer that ends up being a washout, but this time you’re actually prepared for it! There really is nothing like the charm of a seabreeze, a pint of local cider in a local pub, and a chilly evening walk back to your cosy accommodation.
There’s plenty of accommodation in the UK - and it’s not just camping and guesthouses! For a charming, cosy, countryside vibe, you’ve got options.
Holiday cottages are a firm favourite, especially in places like the Cotswolds. Usually located right in the heart of things, you get more of a home-style experience, with the flexibility of self-catering and a traditional family feel.
If you’re after a more luxurious kind of stay, inns and boutique hotels are perfect. They often form part of a package incorporating spa treatments, guided walks, or meals at sought-after eateries.
For a more secluded and introspective vibe, cabins and lodges will absolutely do the job! Generally quite remote and simple, they’re ideal if you’re getting away from it all alone or with a loved one.
And then there’s good old glamping, if you love the outdoors but want that little bit more. Think yurts, treehouses, wagons, pods… you can still spend your time with nature, just with access to a decent shower.
