The summer months are always chock-a-block when it comes to travel, but if you’re more a lover of weekend camping then you should definitely look into getting away September/October time. The crowds have thinned out, kids are back in school, it’s warm(ish) in the day and cooler in the evenings - in other words, it’s the perfect time to pack your bags and pitch a tent.
AUTUMN ITSELFYou know that crispy morning air with a light breeze and the faint scent of morning dew? Breathe it in, aaaand relax. This time of year is perfect for feeling fresh and calm, unlike the heat of summer.
Autumn is the perfect season to embrace the outdoors, given that it’s both beautiful and practical. You get to step out of your tent and be greeted with shades of gold and red, without the buzzing of bugs that come with hotter temperatures. Pack your bug spray just in case, but you’re much less likely to be bitten to death when it’s cooler.
Less heat also makes for a way more comfortable walk or hike - start early and you might be rewarded with a spectacular sunrise.
COMFORTABLE CAMPINGIf you’re not a fan of claustrophobic sleeping bags or sliding around on a blow up bed, don’t use them! Given that you’re much less likely to wake up drenched in sweat, you can actually get cosy with a couple of vacuum packed duvets and a real pillow. Of course, this is a very different story if your home is on your back, but if not then why not? Fall asleep comfortably in a snuggly, homey retreat under the stars.
Speaking of stars, an evening campfire as the sun sets and the moon rises is absolutely unmatched. Storytelling and stargazing with a big bowl of chilli by the glow and crackle of a fire? Perfection.
FEWER PEOPLEWhen the busier, noisier summer months die down, campsites become a quiet haven for those who are looking for a slower and more relaxing timeout. Off-season bookings can be made on short notice, at a lower price, with fewer crowds, and more availability. Camping in autumn is truly the ideal time for spontaneous getaways, especially if you’re looking for your own little slice of nature.
And just a little heads up - the local pubs will also be less crowded too! After a day of doing your thing, get yourself a hot meal, perhaps a pint or two, and unwind in good company, before heading back to your cosy, squishy home away from home.
It’s these little comforts that make autumn camping not just a trip, but a properly treasurable experience. So, if you’re looking for the perfect time to go camping, consider autumn: beautiful colours, ideal weather, and peaceful ambience… it’s a season truly suited to camp cosy.
