What is roller blading or skating?
Roller blading/skating is a combined activity covering recreational inline skating and traditional roller skating. This means it can include skating with wheels arranged in a single line or in two side-by-side pairs. It does not include any form of ice skating.
Can I get travel insurance for roller blading or skating?
Yes, combined cover for recreational roller blading/skating is available on a couple of policies through Direct Travel.
Select the combined roller blading/skating activity when getting your quote and check that it appears on your Policy Certificate or policy documents. Treat it as its own activity rather than relying on separate roller blading, roller skating or ice skating cover.

Things to remember:
- Check that it appears on your policy documents
- Remember that the activity does not include ice skating
- Use rinks, paths and surfaces suitable for recreational skating
- Follow local rules and remain aware of other people using the area
What can travel insurance help with?
If you’re injured while taking part in insured roller blading/skating, emergency medical expenses and repatriation can be covered, subject to the terms and limits of your policy.
Depending on the policy selected, cover may also be available for cancellation, curtailment and other travel-related problems. The combined activity relates to recreational skating on wheels and does not extend to ice skating or roller hockey. Check the applicable Policy Wording.
