What is Cancellation Plus?
Cancellation Plus is a BrokerSure product, designed to bridge the gap between what you've paid for your trip, and what you could claim.
When you purchase a travel insurance policy, you'll be given a 'cancellation limit', which is the amount that you can claim per person for eligible, non-refundable payments you have made towards your holiday. However it doesn't always add up, and you might have actually paid more for your holiday than what can be covered by your insurer.
Say your flights and accommodation have come to a total of £10,000 but your travel insurance only offers you £2,000 per person cancellation - what happens to the £6,000 you could claim for, which isn't covered by your travel insurance? That's where Cancellation Plus steps in. With Cancellation Plus, you can purchase top-up cover for that £6,000 gap in cover.
How much cancellation cover can I add?
Cancellation Plus can offer a maximum top-up cover amount for up to £50,000 per person.
What can I claim for?
You can claim for the following prepaid, non-refundable costs which have not been covered by your main travel insurance provider.
- Flight costs (inc. baggage, ATOL, and check-in fees)
- Hotels, villas, and other eligible accommodation
- Car hire, transfers, parking, and other transport costs
- Additional expenses like kennel/cattery fees, excursions, park tickets, and booking fees
Is there an age limit?
There is an upper age limit of 85.
Travellers aged 18 to 69 can top-up to £50,000, those aged 70 to 75 £20,000, and for those aged between 76 and 85, up to £15,000 is available.
When does my cover start?
Your Cancellation Plus cover will begin 7 days after you purchase it. After these 7 days, cover is in place until you leave home to begin you trip, at which point your Cancellation Plus cover finishes.
What will I need if I have to claim?
You'll need a copy of your main travel insurance Policy Certificate, and confirmation of your claim settlement from them. It is only after you have settled your initial claim with your main travel insurance claims provider, that you can begin the claims process with Cancellation Plus.
Important information:
You must make a cancellation claim under your main travel insurance policy first. Cancellation Plus is designed to provide additional cancellation cover alongside your existing travel insurance.
You do not need to replace your existing travel insurance. Cancellation Plus provides a separate top-up for eligible cancellation costs above your current policy limit.
You cannot claim the total cancellation amount through both your main travel insurance provider and Cancellation Plus. You must go through the claims provider of your main travel insurance policy first.
It's important that you understand the cover before you buy. Please read the Policy Wording and Insurance Product Information Document (IPID), which explain the benefits, exclusions, eligibility requirements and terms of your Cancellation Plus policy.
