Travellers might consider being more adventurous during their time abroad
Backpackers who are heading abroad during their gap year should make sure they sample a range of activities.
That's the advice of Prakriti Malhotra, director of operations at GapGuru, who suggests travelling around the world is a good way for students to boost their employment credentials when they return to the UK.
And those with backpacker insurance may well wish to take this advice on board, ensuring they make the most of their time abroad.
"A gap year has become very much about getting involved with activities and projects to gain hands-on experience," Ms Malhotra explains.
She says many people are being selective about the countries they wish to visit so they choose the places best-suited to their needs.
"An increasing number of students are becoming very selective on ensuring they plan their time away to gain new skills and experiences that can help them stand out from the crowd," the expert adds.
Her comments follow the publication of research from P&O Cruises, which found 81 per cent of adults are now heading on longer and more adventurous trips.
They may well consider following Ms Malhotra's advice and choose the most exciting activities to enjoy once they arrive at their destination.
The study also found 49 per cent of those aged 55-64 years old would like to take time out to travel, with 57 per cent of adults quizzed admitting they wished they had travelled more.
And the number of so-called "grey gap years", in which people head on trips abroad before retiring, was found to have risen by 300 per cent since 2005.
