Melbourne comes out top as the best city to live in

If you’re planning a city break in the near future and want to make sure you choose a destination that is full of friendly locals, fantastic attractions and great cuisine, then you may want to use the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index as a guide.

By doing so, you’ll realise that there really is only one place that you should head to - Melbourne, Australia.

Indeed, the results of this year’s index have just been released, with the city on the Victoria coastline coming top of the chart for the fourth consecutive year.

The report takes into account various factors when rating each city, with the likes of stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure all considered, so you can be pretty sure that any destination which ranks highly on the list has a pretty world-class all round offering.

It’s clearly not just by luck that Melbourne has topped the list so often, and anyone who has ever been to the city will tell you that it’s not only a fantastic place to live, but also to visit.

With Australia’s number one-rated restaurant - Ben Shewry’s Attica - being located here, as well as a wealth of fantastic eateries serving up all manner of global cuisines, it really is one of the best destinations on the planet for foodies.

Sports fans, meanwhile, will be in their absolute element when visiting Melbourne, as it is the only city in the world to boast five international standard sports stadiums, all of which are within walking distance of the city centre.

Melbourne is also known for its superb arts scene, with many of Australia’s top galleries located here, as well as a healthy offering of theatrical entertainment.

So, if you still haven’t decided where to head to on your next city break, it may well be worth making the long journey Down Under.
