Zambian Airways indefinitely suspends all operations
12 Jan 2009
Zambian Airways indefinitely suspended all operations on 10 January due to rising fuel costs. The suspension resulted in the cancellation of all flights until further notice, stranding international passengers at Lusaka International Airport (FLLS/LUN), Livingstone Airport (FLLI/LVI), Ndlola Airport (FLND/NLA) and other southern African airports. The privately owned airline posted a notice stating that the suspension comes after the cost of jet fuel rose 100 percent in the past 18 months. The Zambian government is currently considering measures to assist the airline, but it is unknown when Zambian Airways will resume operations.
