OVER 85 KILLED IN AIR RAID ON REFUGEE CAMP

The Yemeni air force allegedly attacked a refugee camp in the northern town of Adi near Harf Sufyan in Amran province on 16 September 2009. Eyewitnesses stated that more than 85 people were killed in the air raid, which targeted Shiite Houthi rebels. The Yemeni military launched a major offensive against the rebels in mid-August 2009. Fighting has continued in Saada and Amran provinces in recent days. Reports indicate that the humanitarian situation has worsened significantly. The rebels have stated they are ready to accept an "unconditional ceasefire," but the Yemeni government has demanded that the rebels fulfill six conditions, including disarmament and disclosing information about kidnapping operations.
