Gunmen open fire outside U.S embassy in Sanaa

On 26 January 2009 unidentified gunmen opened fire outside the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa. Police officials stated that the gunmen opened fire at the checkpoint, but were not close to the embassy. No injuries were reported during the attack; police sources stated that officers returned fire and have detained several suspects in relation to the attack. Hours earlier, the U.S. Embassy was made aware of a possible threat against the embassy compound and had asked U.S. citizens in the country to heighten their situational awareness and use caution.
