Grenade explosion in Dalea
08 Jul 2008
A grenade exploded during a protest against the high cost of living in the southern town of Dalea on 7 July 2008, injuring at least eight people, including a soldier. The blast occurred as authorities attempted to break up the protest. Officials indicated that they arrested the suspected bomber.
On the same day, authorities in the southern city of Aden detained dozens of protesters as they were gathering in the city center for a demonstration. The protests mark the one-year anniversary of widespread demonstrations in southern Yemen calling for better public services and denouncing high prices.
