EVACUATION ORDERS ISSUED DUE TO WILDFIRES
31 Aug 2009
California authorities have issued evacuation orders for several areas north of Los Angeles -- including parts of Acton, La Canada Flintridge, Glendale, La Crescenta and Altadena -- as a result of a massive wildfire in the Angeles National Forest, which emergency responders are referring to as the Station Fire. More than 10,000 homes and 2,000 commercial buildings are at risk. The fire threatens Mount Wilson, where a number of TV, radio and mobile phone towers are located. The fire may also disrupt communications in southern California. At least two firefighters died on 30 August when their vehicle rolled off a hillside in the Angeles National Forest.
