FURTHER RAIL STRIKES TAKE PLACE

Rail workers in London initiated another two-day strike on 13 August 2009 against the National Express East Anglia (NXEA) over issues related to poor work conditions and payment disputes. Officials with NXEA stated that the company will run only limited services, cancelling operations at Liverpool Street station intil 14 August. Areas that will be affected by the strike are Essex, Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. The rail line that runs from London to Stansted Airport will also experience delays and cancellations as a result of the two-day strike. This strike, which is organized by the ASLEF, RMT and TSSA unions, is the third strike action initiated by the rail workers; another two-day strike is planned for 20 August.
