Commercial Flights To Yemen Suspended

20 Jan 2010
On 20 January 2010 the U.K. government announced the suspension of direct commercial flights between the United Kingdom and Yemen over terror-related concerns. The suspension of flights will remain in place until security measures at Yemeni airports are improved. The U.K. government instituted the measure as part of efforts to improve aviation security following the attempted bombing attack of a U.S. commercial flight in December 2009. Authorities suspect that the would-be bomber received assistance from al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, a terrorist group based in Yemen.
