AIRCRAFT SLIDES OFF RUNWAY AT GLASGOW IN ICY CONDITIONS
23 Dec 2009
A Ryanair aircraft slid off the runway at Glasgow Prestwick Airport (EGPK/PIK) and came to rest on a grassy area shortly after landing on 23 December 2009. The incident occurred as the aircraft was taxiing to the terminal building, and authorities suspect that the mishap occurred as a result of icy conditions. There were no reports of injuries to any of the 123 passengers or six crew members who were on the flight, which originated in Dublin, Ireland. Operations at the airport were temporarily suspended as crews worked to move the aircraft, but the facility has since reopened.
