Security threat against the U.S. Consulate

A security threat against the U.S. Consulate in Dubai emerged on 21 January 2009. Authorities investigating the threat stated that "no direct evidence of a threat" has been found. Dubai authorities reportedly received an anonymous phone call claiming that a Sudanese national was planning “some kind of action” at the consulate, but after detaining the man it was determined that the claim was unsubstantiated. In response to the alleged threat, the U.S. Consulate was closed to the public on 21 January and is expected to resume full services on 22 January; according to reports, no additional security is in place in or around the Dubai World Trade Center building, where the consulate is located.
