Zimbabwe ready to welcome holidaymakers again, says expert

Zimbabwe is set to become another destination on the tourist map

Tourists can now enter Zimbabwe again after years of the country being in economic turmoil, according to one expert.

Holidaymakers can return to Zimbabwe after years of the country being economically unstable, it has been suggested.

According to Bradt travel guide author Paul Murray, the US dollarisation of the African nation's economy about a year ago has meant Zimbabwe is a suitable holiday destination again.

Shop shelves are being restocked and tourism organisations are investing in their holiday properties in preparation for visitors, he explained.

Some of the main sights holidaymakers can take in on a trip to Zimbabwe include Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park, Lake Kariba and the Lower Zambezi Valley, according to Mr Murray.

"Great Zimbabwe near Masvingo is a fantastically impressive, massive dry-stone-wall citadel dating back to the 12th to 15th centuries and based on the international gold trade of the time," he said.

Britons heading to Zimbabwe may want to take out holiday insurance for peace of mind.

Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe recently suggested that the country may see an increase in tourist arrivals as a result of the World Cup taking place in South Africa this year.

Holiday Insurance from Direct Travel Insurance can cover a trip to Africa or other long-haul destinations all for a low price.
