World Cup success has boosted tourism in South Africa, says expert
The recent football World Cup can be attributed to better tourism opportunities in South Africa, according to an expert.
Lebohang Mokhesi, country manager UK for South Africa Tourism, said that improved travel infrastructure and perceptions of the region may have contributed to increasing numbers of visitors once the tournament was complete.
She added: "There's so much to do and see from adventure to spa, wildlife to world class hotels - and you can be assured of a very warm welcome."
Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban are already popular with travellers, but better public transport facilities will encourage people to go further afield.
Improved profits and confidence has urged hotel owners in the nation to believe their occupancy levels will increase or stay the same in the coming months - which could result in better accommodation options for those who require it.
Owners were also revelling in pride at how South Africa handled the World Cup proceedings.
A survey by Horwath HTL, of professionals in the hospitality industry, recently revealed that 84 per cent believe room rates will remain constant or go up in the next period - and particularly, those running five-star locations were found to be the most confident in their business outlook.
Anyone considering a holiday to South Africa could do well to heed the parting advice from Ms Mokheshi, which is simply: "Come - and bring plenty of energy."
They should also look into taking out a
holiday insurance policy before leaving home, as such a measure could protect them should the worst happen while they are abroad.
