Snow and ice may be causing commuter misery for those travelling by train today.
An ongoing cold snap could be causing misery for train commuters as
National Rail reports disrupted services up and down the country.
Delays of up to 45 minutes are being experienced on routes between Cardiff and Manchester Piccadilly, as well as services travelling through Chester, Llandudno Junction and Holyhead.
Arriva Trains, First Great Western, Virgin Trains and CrossCountry are all seeing problems as a result of heavy snow that has fallen over the last day or so and as a result, commuters could do well to check forecasts and service updates before leaving the house.
Much of the train journeys in Wales have been affected, with Carmarthen, Port Talbot, Wrexham, Porthmadog, Aberdovey and Bangor stations all experiencing delays and cancellations.
And it is not just western areas feeling the effects of winter weather chaos, as National Express trains in Colchester and Clacton are delayed by up to 30 minutes, while
Scotrail has amended its services between Inverness and Aberdeen, with no trains running between Elgin and Inverurie. Alternative routes are available via Perth but the operator has stated this may increase journey times by at least two hours.
Holiday insurance policyholders looking to set off within the next few days are well advised to check with their travel operator before leaving home, particularly as flash warnings of severe or extreme weather are in place for much of the country.
The
Met Office states heavy and drifting snow, as well as widespread icy roads, are likely in all of Scotland and Wales and much of Northern Ireland and the west and south of England.
