Readers of Skiing magazine have named Whistler Blackcomb as their favourite ski resort in the publication's annual poll.

Whistler Blackcomb has been voted the top ski resort in the world by readers of a North American skiing magazine.

Set to host certain events in the upcoming Winter Olympics, the resort was rated highly by those voting in annual poll held by Skiing magazine, which ranked each entry based on criteria such as quality of terrain, backcountry access and nightlife.

While Whistler Blackcomb won out overall and in the nightlife category, Jackson Hole in Wyoming scored the highest in the areas of backcountry access and best steeps, with Stowe in Vermont coming out on top in the best in east rankings.

Jake Bogoch, editor of Skiing magazine, commented: "When our readers think of Whistler, they think of dark storms, granite-lined bowls, blocky cliffs and long, long runs.

"That's why they want to go there more than anywhere else."

While visiting a resort that is rated highly by skiers may seem like a safe bet, taking out ski insurance can be a good idea in the event that an accident takes place.
