The Forbidden City – Also known as the Palace Museum, the Forbidden City is one of China’s most famous landmarks. Situated north of Tiananmen Square, home of Mao Zedong’s famous painting, this was the imperial residence for the Ming and Qing dynasty emperors from 1420 to 1912, when Pu Yi abdicated.
The Great Wall– Covering more than 4,000 miles, the Great Wall took more than 2,000 years to complete. As the largest manmade construction in the world, this landmark is visible from outer space. The wall comprises a number of smaller connecting walls built by different Chinese dynasties and warlords throughout China’s history. The Great Wall should be a compulsory stop on the itinerary of every visitor to China.
The Terracotta Warriors– Only discovered in 1974 by a local farmer, this terracotta army was buried in 210 BC with the first emperor of the Qin dynasty. Consisting of thousands of life-sized figures, these warriors all have unique faces, armour and hair, which were all styled to match their rank. The exhibition is a truly marvellous sight and not one to be missed.
