Local authorities in Wales are braced for more winter travel chaos, according to officials.
Local authorities in Wales are preparing to combat winter travel chaos as a result of a predicted cold snap.
The Welsh Assembly's social justice and local government minister Carl Sargeant said yesterday (January 11th) that the country is making provisions ahead of more adverse conditions.
"We may not have seen the last of the severe weather this winter so we must remain prepared," he explained.
Some £7 million has been allocated to councils throughout the nation with instructions to spend it on supplies of salt, as well as repairing the potholes that appeared as a result of recent freezing conditions.
Mr Sargeant remarked his advice to authorities is to spend the cash on routes used to reach doctors' surgeries, schools and shopping centres that may be vital to elderly or vulnerable members of the community.
The low temperatures and heavy snowfall have had an adverse effect on businesses, so the politician has been in communication with those concerned about another bout of poor weather and states he is working with them to make sure they can remain operational despite the conditions.
Holiday insurance policy holders in Wales hoping to set off in the coming weeks could do well to keep abreast of developments in forecasts, while stocking their car with blankets and warm food may be advisable.
The
Met Office has issued a flash warning of severe or extreme weather in much of central Wales, while an advisory notice has been placed on the rest of the country in preparation for heavy rainfall of up to 20 mm over the course of three hours today (January 12th).
