Dougga and the Sahara Desert might prove enjoyable for those visiting Tunisia.
Sightseeing tours of Tunisia might involve a trip to the Sahara Desert or some of the country's historic ruins, but one expert has claimed the attractions are striking.
A spokeswoman for the Tunisian National Tourist Office states the ruined site of Dougga is "a much more impressive site to visit" than Carthage, where the Roman Empire in Africa was centred.
However, many of the buildings have been destroyed, but the well-known events that took place there are remembered, making it suitable for finding out more about what went on in the past.
People interested in the culture and history of the nation could do well to see the Ampitheatre of El Jem, which was one of the largest built during the aforementioned Roman Empire and has been dubbed a must-see for people arriving in Tunisia for the first time by the official.
However, some travel insurance policyholders might be put off arriving there during December as the Muslim country does not celebrate Christmas, but the spokeswoman confirmed there is still plenty to see and do - and many resorts will host parties and dinners for those who do wish to enjoy festivities on the 25th.
But bringing in the new year is sure to go off with a bang, as January 1st is a bank holiday usually introduced with firework displays, music, camel racing and dinner events, the spokeswoman remarked.
What's more, booking flights should not be a problem, as Tunisair will increase its layovers to Enfidha Airport - near Sousse and Hammamat - from Manchester next year as a result of passenger numbers increasing by 20 per cent during 2010.
