An expert has said that it is vital to plan ahead before travelling to Goa.
India is becoming more and more popular with holidaymakers and backpackers alike thanks to its rich cultural and historical heritage and rock-bottom prices.
With world-renowned landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, the Asian nation has long been regarded as a good long-haul destination, but in recent times its popularity has soared.
And, according to Raj Kumar Singh, assistant director of Incredible India in London, the city of Goa is one of the country's prime locations thanks to its vast array of attractions.
Statistics published earlier this month (July 5th) by The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa in the Times of India show that, despite reports to the contrary, Goa has experienced a steady upturn in visitor numbers over the past few years, even with the adverse effects of the global economic downturn.
Last year, figures indicate that a total of more than 2.5 million people travelled to the city, a rise of over 130,000 on the number posted for 2008.
Meanwhile, statistics for May of this year from STR Global indicate that the Asia-Pacific region in general has seen an increase in popularity with holidaymakers in recent times.
Therefore, Mr Sunai remarked, travellers looking to visit the city this year should plan their trip well in advance in order to avoid any problems with securing hotel rooms to stay in.
"[People] must make all arrangements before going to Goa, as sometimes it is very hard to get accommodation," he remarked.
Anyone considering a trip to Goa this year should think about getting
travel insurance before leaving the UK.
