Istanbul is just one of the many sites to visit in Turkey.
Turkey is the ideal country to visit at any time of year, as there are plenty of attractions to suit all types of holiday.
That is the view of Joanna Marsh, PR co-ordinator for the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, who suggests: "Turkey is a destination for all seasons."
Individuals heading there over the coming months can find plenty of beach holidays along the Aegean coast and this type of break is perfect from May until October.
Certain destinations along the Mediterranean can remain warm into November, making it possible to take a dip in the sea even during the autumn months.
Ms Marsh advises avoiding the ancient sites and tourist spots in high summer, as they may be crowded and very warm.
Culture vultures could find the ideal chance to see these attractions is spring and autumn, when the visit will be more comfortable.
Referring to the nation's largest city - which has a population of over 10 million people - Ms Marsh says: "Istanbul has a different vibe all together in the winter months, with snow-dusted streets, cosy cafe culture to enjoy and the air thick with the smell of toasted chestnuts.
"In summer, open-air night clubs and rooftop bars are where it's at."
The Sultanahmet district is a must-see for travel insurance policyholders and others who want to head to all the historic sites.
However, Beyoglu, Nisantasi and Bebek are also lovely areas where there is "a whole other atmosphere" and visitors can get an insight into the real Turkey.
Alternatively, weekend breaks to the Princes' Islands, which take 50 minutes by ferry from Istanbul, are popular among many people.
