"Very competitive fares" to be found on flights
There are cheap flights to be found at the moment giving people the perfect opportunity to grab a last-minute bargain, it has been reported.
According to Darren McCormick, head of aviation at Travel Counsellors, some airlines offer more than one flight per day to certain destinations, which has led to a saturated market.
"This has resulted in very competitive fares, which has actually stimulated sales in a difficult market," he explained.
Mr McCormick said that flights to Australia could be found for around £450 and £279 to get to New York, especially great for those with annual travel insurance looking to make the most of their cover.
However, this phenomenon will probably not last for too much longer, as airlines predict that the number of flights will be cut over the next six months.
The Civil Aviation Authority reported in March a fall in the number of airline passengers for the first time in 17 years.
