Helen Webster, editor at Perfect Wedding, explained that increasing numbers of hen parties are being hosted in Edinburgh and Manchester instead of foreign countries, which can turn out to cost a lot of money.
"I think if people plan a very expensive hen do and half their friends can't come then it loses its purpose a little bit," she said of arranging holidays abroad.
Booking into a city apartment or boutique hotel could provide the level of luxury ladies are looking for prior to upcoming nuptials - and such accommodation may actually offer better value for money than jetting off to sunnier climes.
Restaurants, bars, nightlife and shops are among the amenities Ms Webster points out as being important and a night away from home might be unnecessary, as some brides might choose to "spend time with the girls without having to book a hotel" instead.
