Turkey 'becoming more popular with Brits'
Summer holidays to Turkey are becoming more popular among British travellers, a TripAdvisor spokesperson has observed.
According to the online travel community's Luke Fredberg, more UK holidaymakers are opting for a trip to Turkey rather than more traditional summer holiday destinations - such as Spain - because of the good pound-to-lira exchange rate.
Finance is a priority for credit-crunched Brits, he added, noting that people are expressing increasing interest in non-eurozone destinations in an effort to make their pounds stretch further.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises all UK residents planning a holiday in Turkey to take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes medical treatment, as the European Health Insurance Card is not valid in the country and private care can be expensive for those who do not have cover.
Citing figures from the Turkish ministry of tourism, it estimated that some 1,920,000 tourists from Britain visited the country in 2007.
