People looking further afield may find a different kind of holiday.
With the recent report from the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) saying that Brits are more likely to be seeking out a better value for money holiday in an unknown and unique destination in 2012, travel insurance customers will be looking at countries where there is less of a presence of British tourists over the next 12 months.
One such destination could be Japan. The far east country is one which is not hugely popular with British tourists, but according to one expert, it can be one of the breathtaking sights to see, especially when the cherry blossoms come out from January, a time when tourists are most likely to visit.
Kylie Clark, PR and marketing manager for the Japan National Tourism Organisation, said: "Most visitors to Japan aim to hit the cherry blossom season at the very end of March/early April when the blossoms are out in Tokyo and Kyoto. Japan showered in pink petals is stunningly beautiful, but cherry blossom season is just one of many great times to visit Japan and appreciate the landscape and culture."
She said that there is much to be gained from holidaying in the country, with many nature parks, and the iconic Mount Fuji being amongst the most enjoyable activities to embark on for people heading to Japan.
Another place with a difference for Brits to head to in 2012 could be Kenya. Described as the activity capital of Africa, Kenya offers a range of things for people holidaying in the country to do while they visit.
Angie Sloan, regional director of the Kenya Tourist Board, said that people who enjoy an adrenaline rush would instantly love the surroundings in the country.
"Kenya is a paradise for adventure junkies searching for their next fix. Just some of the adventures on offer in Kenya include, white water rafting - the Tana River is located 95 kilometres outside of the capital city of Nairobi and is one of the main white water rafting rivers in the country," she added.
