Travelling by InterRail 'is a holiday in itself'
Travellers struggling to book cheap flights this summer but who are determined to get away from it all may wish to consider jumping on a train, it has been reported.
According to Travel Industry Wire, the number of holidaymakers taking an InterRail trip within Europe between January and April rose by five per cent compared to the same period last year.
During 2008, some 240,000 people in Europe boarded a train with an InterRail Pass - an increase of 37 per cent on the previous year.
Marketing director of the Eurail Group Ana Dias e Seixas said: "The journey itself turns into a holiday because they meet all kinds of other young people from different countries and cultures. That is precisely the appeal of the InterRail Pass."
The InterRail network covers 30 different European countries and a Global Pass allows travel between them all.
According to figures published by Axa, the average value of a medical claim made on a travel insurance policy in Spain amounted to £650.
