Increased train fares make travel within the UK for many people.
People who are looking to travel around the UK on their holidays are being scuppered by prohibitive train fares, with another increase due only likely to make the situation even worse.
Many people with travel insurance enjoy taking breaks across the UK, and those who want to go from destination todestination will often use the train in order to tour or just to reach a single venue. However, this could be a reduced venture with the news that prices are to be increased.
The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) announced on December 20th that that there will be a 5.9 per cent increase in the cost of train fares in 2012.
Sophie Allain, public transport campaigner at Campaign for Better Transport, said that further increases in the cost of travel from train companies simply means that the promises of a better value rail network are not being met, and that it pushes many people further into economic worry.
"We already have the most expensive fares in Europe and higher fares will make us less competitive, will make us a less mobile country and will take us further away from meeting green objectives as well," she added.
Ms Allain said that the way train prices are going at the moment, people who want to holiday in UK destinations are going to be priced out of the public transport, with prices in 2015 likely to sit 24 per cent higher than they are at the moment.
"The governments own projections confirm that by the time this three-year round of fare increases has taken its toll, we will have fewer people able to use the railway," she added.
