This year could be the ideal time to book a holiday to Mexico, it has been suggested.
Holidaymakers looking to take in new destinations this year might want to buy
travel insurance for a trip to Mexico.
According to Mick Webb of the Independent, 2010 will see the country celebrate two major anniversaries - the bicentenary of its independence from Spain and the centenary of the Mexican revolution.
As such, there will be plenty to see and do across the country this year, making it ideal for a holiday of a lifetime, he said.
Mr Webb suggested starting in Mexico City, the capital, and visiting its many restaurants, art galleries and museums, as well as taking in celebratory parades and firework displays.
"Among the city's classic experiences are a walk round the huge central square, the Zocalo; a visit to the stunning Anthropological Museum and a trip to the borough of Xochimilco, where you can cruise the Aztec water gardens," he commented.
The expert added that travellers are likely to get some good deals on breaks to Mexico, as last year's slump in tourism means that operators are looking to attract more holidaymakers in 2010.
Mexico has 32 states and six tourist regions: northern Mexico, central Mexico, southern Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, the Pacific coast and the Baja California Peninsula.
