Britons travelling to the US from January 20th need to apply for a new travel authorisation before they can depart.
UK holidaymakers are being urged to make note of new requirements for travel to the US that are coming into effect from January 20th.
From this date, passengers will not be allowed to fly unless they have completed a US Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) form and had it approved.
The number on the ESTA must also match the relevant passport number, ABTA - The Travel Association says.
It can take between 15 and 20 minutes to complete the application and while authorisation is usually given immediately, it can take up to 72 hours in some cases.
Passengers wanting more information should check the official ESTA website - through which it is free to make an application.
It can also be used to check on the progress of a current application.
Those heading to the US may additionally want to consider looking into
holiday insurance beforehand.
"Ideally, you should complete an ESTA as soon as you book your trip to the US and not leave it until the last minute - when you may forget," commented Susan Parsons, manager for trade relations at ABTA - The Travel Association.
