Travellers 'urged to not cut back on travel insurance'
With figures revealing Brits are cutting back on their insurance spending in a bid to save money, people are being urged to consider what is "need to have" and what is "nice to have" cover.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA), said: "Travel insurance is really cheap ... so [it is] affordable and doable."
According to figures from BIBA, 16 per cent of their insurance brokers reported a reduction in the amount of cover taken out by their clients and an increase in excesses.
However, the cost to UK holidaymakers who did not take out travel insurance in 2008 was almost £90 million due to holiday disasters, according to a report in May from InsureandGo.
The research also found that 236,000 incidents could have been claimed for on a travel insurance policy last year with the most common problems suffered by Brits including medical problems, cancellation of flights, lost or stolen money or baggage and travel delays.
Cheap travel insurance from Direct Travel Insurance could be one way to keep total holiday expenditure down.
