Travellers 'remain defiant in the recession'
Brits are proving defiant in the recession and are continuing to get away from it all on a foreign holiday, one travel company has said.
According to a spokesperson for Thomson and First Choice, customers are still showing a desire to travel and are looking to "robust" companies to organise their trip.
She added that in the "light of the demise of XL and Zoom" people are now more aware of who they travel with, which is also a good reason to take out a travel insurance policy.
Research from the company carried out last November found that 88 per cent of Britons said they would rather cut back on spending on home improvements and eating out than give up their summer travel plans.
Some 59 per cent of people added that their annual holiday would be the last thing to go if they had to rein in their spending.
Whether people are taking more trips within the UK or are still holidaying overseas, an annual travel insurance policy could cover for all of these trips, American Express advised recently.
