Holidaymakers are becoming increasingly cautious when planning their breaks due to the high number of airline and travel firm failures in recent times, according to one expert.
The high number of airlines and travel companies that have failed in the last 18 months has prompted many Britons to exercise more caution when planning their holidays.
This is according to Sharron Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net, who said that consumers are increasingly searching for holiday bargains and taking shorter breaks to save money during the recession.
Britons are also holding back when it comes to spending on luxury holidays due to the "unprecedented" level of failures seen in the travel sector as a result of the economic downturn, she explained.
"This highlights the change in traveller behaviour attributed to the credit crunch and general need for caution when it comes to spending on luxuries in the middle market," Ms Livingston commented.
Certain
travel insurance providers offer protection against travel agent and airline failure, as does the Air Travel Organisers' Licensing scheme, which applies to those travel firms that have signed up to it.
Cheap travel insurance from Direct Travel Insurance could be one way to keep total holiday expenditure down.
