UK destinations soared in popularity among travellers this summer, according to new research from LateRooms.
Holidaymakers flocked to UK destinations in their droves over the summer, new figures have shown.
According to accommodation booking site LateRooms, UK hotels experienced a collective fourfold increase in reservations compared with last summer - which may also have led to a rise in the number of people taking out UK
travel insurance.
Hotels in the Isle of Wight saw the biggest surge in bookings, with an increase of 407 per cent.
East Anglia followed with a 297 per cent rise, while the Scottish Highlands experienced a 219 per cent increase.
Other popular destinations included the Yorkshire Dales, Bournemouth and Poole, Bath and the Chilterns.
"People are really making their trips away count and enjoying the benefits of discovering or rediscovering wonderful destinations across the country," Andrew Pumphrey of LateRooms told TravelMole.
Some 25 million UK travellers took a domestic flight last year, according to figures from the Civil Aviation Authority.
Even if you’re travelling within the UK, holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
